अध्याय 2 

Chapter 2 

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि-
न्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः ।
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो-
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ॥ 

भावार्थ :   यह आत्मा किसी काल में भी न तो जन्मता है और न मरता ही है तथा न यह उत्पन्न होकर फिर होने वाला ही है क्योंकि यह अजन्मा, नित्य, सनातन और पुरातन है, शरीर के मारे जाने पर भी यह नहीं मारा जाता॥20॥ 

The soul never takes birth and never dies at any time nor does it come into being again when the body is created. The soul is birthless,eternal,imperishable and timeless and is never destroyed when the body is destroyed.


नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः ।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः ॥ 

भावार्थ :   इस आत्मा को शस्त्र नहीं काट सकते, इसको आग नहीं जला सकती, इसको जल नहीं गला सकता और वायु नहीं सुखा सकता॥23॥

Weopans can not harm the soul, fire can not burn the soul, water can not wet and air can not dry up the soul .




अच्छेद्योऽयमदाह्योऽयमक्लेद्योऽशोष्य एव च ।
नित्यः सर्वगतः स्थाणुरचलोऽयं सनातनः ॥

भावार्थ :   क्योंकि यह आत्मा अच्छेद्य (काटा नहीं जा सकता ) है, यह आत्मा अदाह्य(जलाया नहीं जा सकता ), अक्लेद्य और निःसंदेह अशोष्य(सुखाया नहीं जा सकता) है तथा यह आत्मा नित्य, सर्वव्यापी, अचल, स्थिर रहने वाला और सनातन है॥24॥ 

The soul is indestructible, the soul is incombustible,insoluble and unwitherable.The soul is eternal,all-prevading,unmodifiable, immovable and primordial.

अव्यक्तोऽयमचिन्त्योऽयमविकार्योऽयमुच्यते ।
तस्मादेवं विदित्वैनं नानुशोचितुमर्हसि॥॥ 

भावार्थ :   यह आत्मा अव्यक्त है, यह आत्मा अचिन्त्य है और यह आत्मा विकाररहित कहा जाता है। इससे हे अर्जुन! इस आत्मा को उपर्युक्त प्रकार से जानकर तू शोक करने के योग्य नहीं है अर्थात्‌ तुझे शोक करना उचित नहीं है॥25॥ 

It is declared that the soul is imperceptible, the soul is inconceivable, the soul is immutable therefore understanding the soul as such, it is improper for you Arjun to lament.
