Meditation - How to control and concentrate the mind - Aatmsnayamyog


Chapter 6 
 verse 35

Asanshayam  mahabaho mano durnigraham chalam
abhyasen tu kauntey vairagyen cha grahte
Doubtless, O mighty-armed, the mind is restless and hard to control: but by practice and by dispassion O son of Kunti,it can e done.
६ अध्याय 
असंशयं महाबाहो मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम्‌ ।
अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेय वैराग्येण च गृह्यते ॥ 
 श्री भगवान बोले- हे महाबाहो! निःसंदेह मन चंचल और कठिनता से वश में होने वाला है। परन्तु हे कुंतीपुत्र अर्जुन! यह अभ्यास और वैराग्य से वश में होता है अथार्त इसका निग्रह किया जा सकता है ॥35॥ 
Shri Bhagwaan bole-  Hey mahabaho! ye man bada chanchal aur iska nigrah karna bhi bada kathin hai.Parantu hey Kuntinandan! abhyaas aur vairagya ke dwara iska nigrah kia ja sakta hai.


Man ko baar baar dhyey(jiski dharna ki jaaye,goal,lord) me lagane ko abhyaas kahte hain. Is abhyaas ki sidhhi yani safalta samay lagane se hoti hai.Abhyaas nirantar hona chahiye aur apne dhyey me mahatva tatha aadar budhhi honi chahiye.Is tarah abhyaas karne se abhyaas dran ho jata hai.

Abhyaas moolta do tarah ke hote hain

1. Apna jo lakshya,dhyey hai usme manovratti ko lagayen athaart doosra kuch bhi chintan aa jaye uski upeksha kar den,usse udaseen ho jayen.

2. Jahan jahan man jaye vahan vahan hi apne ishapne lakshya ya bhagwaa ko dekhen.

 ye abhyaas ke bhed ke saath saath man ko nigrah karne ke upaay bhi hain,aur upaay hain

3.sadhak dhyaan karne ke lie baithe,tab sabse pehle saans lete hue do chaar baar saan bahar ki oor fenken aur ye soche ki maine man se sansaar ko sarwatha nikaal dia,ab mera man sansaar ka chintan nahi karega,bhagwaa ka hi chintan karega aur chintan me jo kuch bhi aayega,wo prabhu ka hi swaroop hoga.

4. Bhagwaan ke naam ka jap kare - ek to naam ke uchharan me samay khalin na jaane de athaart ra----m---ra---m is tarah naam ka bhale hi dheere dheere uchharan kare par beech me samaya khali na jaane de,doosri baat ki naam ko bina sune na jaane de athaart jaap ke saath use sune bhi.

5. jis naam ko jape uski nigraani kare athaart us naam ko ungli ya mala se na ginkar man se hi naam ka ismarn kare aur man se hi ginti kare.

6. ek naam ka uchharan karta rahe to ek ko man me japte rahe jaise raam raam ka uchharan kar raha hai to sadhak chahe to krisna krisna japte rahe.

7. bhagwaan ke roop swaroop ka dhyaan kare charano se mukut tak aur mukut se charano tak.

8. Raag aur ragini ke saath bolkar naam ka keertan kare.

9. Is bhaaw ke saath prabhu ko jape ki bhagwaan mere saamne khade hain.

isi tarah se sadhak swayam bhi prabhu ko dhyaan karne ke lie apni taraf se bhi upaay soch sakta hai.

Vairaagya ko badhane ke lie sadhak ye soche
1. Sansaar pratichhan ghat raha hai,badalta hai,parantu wo shareer nahi uska swaroop aatma hai aur wo kabhi nahi badalta kabhi nahi ghat.ta ya badha kyunki wo paripoorna hai.

2. apne pariwaarjano ki apne samaarthya anusaar sewa kar de kyunki wo anukulta ki asha rakhte hain parantu swayam sewa ki asha na rakhe is tarah se sadhak me raag nahi utpaan hoga.

3. jitne bhi paap,dosh,dukh hote hain wo sabhi sansaar me raag hone ki wajah se hi hote hain aur jitnio sukh shanti milti wo sab raag rahit hone se hi milti hai.Is wichaar ko dran rakhne se vairaagya bhi dran ho jata hai.


An earnest,regular and persisten attempt,to concentrate the mind on God,is called practice.This practice should be done with respect and adoration,for God by attaching importance to Him.This practice is of two kinds:-

1. A striver should concentrate his mind on the target and being indifferent to thoughts,that come to mind.

2. A striver,should concentrate on his deity, wherever the mind wanders.

Some more ways of concentrating the mind on God.

3. A striver should exhale air two or three times,and then think that he has discarded the world of his mind,and so whatever thoughts will come to mind,will be a manifestation of God only - this is 'Vasudeva sarvam'(God is everywhere).

4. Recite the name of Lord,and listen to it.There should not be any time-lag between the recitation of one name and the next.

5.Chant the name with in the mind.

6. Think of the form of the Lord,from top to toe and from toe to top.

7. Think that the God is standing before you.Think of His form.

Thus, there are different methods of concentrating ones mind on God.A striver can also think of other means of other ways to concentrate on Lord by himself.

The methods to develop Dispassion

1. The world is kaleidoscopic,while the self never changes,in the least.We can not live with the world and the world can not live with us.Our childhood,babyhood and youth,have passed.Similar,is the case with circumstances.By thinking of reality,we can become dispassionate.

2. We should satisf,the just desires of our family and relations,according to our power,ability and resources,without hope of reward.Thus,old attachment is wiped out, and new attachment is not born.

3.We should think that all sins,crimes and pains, are the fruits of attachemnt,while peace and bliss,are the fruits of dispassion.By thinking so,we can develop dispassion.
